July CleanUp at Berk Plage ♻️

Summer scrubbin’, happened so fast! 🎵🎶 We decided to take advantage of the sunny weather this weekend to carry out another CleanUp operation at Berck beach. 🏖

In just one hour, we were able to collect a variety of plastic cups, endless chunks of Styrofoam and bottomless reams of fishing net. To top it all off, we managed to gather no less than… 448 cigarette butts!

Night of Biodiversity 💡

It’s the Night of Biodiversity! A fantastic opportunity for us to go out and check whether the lights in Paris’ store fronts and shop windows are switched off after 1:00am!

Unfortunately, on our outing, we discovered that this sadly wasn’t the case. We spotted such bad behaviour from a lot of major brands and chain stores, from the likes of Mango, BoConcept and Antonelle Paris, to La Brioche Dorée and NAF NAF, to name but a few 🙄

Vivien’s portrait by La Gentle Factory

A big thanks to La Gentle Factory for their profile interview on proud Co-Founder of The Climat’Optimistss Vivien. Check out the original interview here!

PROFILE #9 – The Extraordinary Vivien

Vivien, tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. What defines you?
Well, for starters, hi everybody! And gosh, where to begin?
I was born in the northern region of Picardie, in France, and today I live in Paris, where I am Co-President of our association Les Climat’Optimistes. I studied environmental law in Auckland, New Zealand, and I have since worked in areas like ocean protection, the right to clean drinking water and sustainable development. On a personal level, I admit that I have a bit of a thing for very specific topics in the areas of health and the environment, such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals for instance (I know, it’s weird!)

CleanUp on the Seine Riverbank ♻️

It is estimated that around 300 million tonnes of plastic are found in the ocean as we speak. As our friends at Surfrider Foundation Europe are keen to point out, approximately 1,500,000kg of waste winds up in the sea every two hours.

Each item of improperly discarded waste will eventually end up in the ocean. In order to prevent this to the best of our abilities, we once again embarked upon a clean-up outing, this time on the quays of the river Seine in Paris. We collected cigarette butts, bottlecaps and myriad forms of #plastic all along the riverbank! ♻️

Open Parliament: Our question on baby nappies published! 📝

When it comes to your baby, health-conscious nappies should be the rule, not the exception!

Recently, we got in touch with Matthieu Orphelin, MP for the Maine-et-Loire, as we wanted the government to address this issue and let us know more about the measures it intends to take in order to improve quality control standards and transparency when it comes to baby nappy production and the substances used therein.

World Health Day: it all starts with safe nappies! 👶

On this occasion, Vivien our Co-president, recalls the need for action on environmental health, from the first product we use in life: nappies! Here is our message:

Happy World Health Day! You know, 15 days ago, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Parliament recognised that :

Open Parliament: Baby nappies 📝

Via the Open Parliament platform, Les Climat’Optimistes would like to highlight the need to improve the production methods used in baby nappy manufacturing in order to eliminate any substances that might disrupt the hormonal systems of newborns.

In France alone, over 95% of babies wear disposable nappies. And yet, a study conducted by French consumer magazine 60 millions de consommateurs in September 2018 reported that residue from glyphosate, organochlorine and volatile organic compounds could be found in many of the nappies produced by major manufacturers.
